Abstract Sediments conveyed from interrill areas to rills are transported by a thin flow (overland flow) and the knowledge of overland flow resistance is useful to evaluate overland flow velocity and sediment transport capacity. Vehicle routing systems provide several advantages over manual transportation planning and they are attracting growing attention. However, deployment of these systems can be prohibitively costly, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises: the customization, integration, and migration is laborious and requires operations research expetise. We propose an automated configuration workflow for vehicle routing system and data flow customization, which provides the necessary basis for more experimental work on the subject. Reusability and modularity in transactional workflows

Abstract Workflow management techniques have become an intensive area of research in information systems. In large scale workflow systems modularity and reusability of existing task structures with context dependent (parameterized) task execution are essential components of a successful application. In this paper we study the issues related to management of modular transactional workflows, i.e., workflows that reuse component tasks and thus avoid redundancy in design. The notion of parameterized transactional properties of workflow tasks is introduced and analyzed, and the underlying architectural issues are discussed.

A novel system for the introduction of liquid samples into analytical plasmas for atomic spectrometric analysis is presented in this manuscript for the first time. The proposed “drop-on-demand” (DOD) aerosol generator is based on the use of a modified thermal inkjet cartridge. This system employs a lab-built microcontroller, which allows accessing all parameters important for driving the dosing cartridge for the generation of pL-droplets from sample volumes in the μL range. Sequential injection spectrophotometric determination of oxybenzone in lipsticks

A sequential injection (SI) procedure for the spectrophotometric determination of oxybenzone in lipsticks is reported. The colorimetric reaction between nickel and oxybenzone was used. SI parameters such as sample solution volume, reagent solution volume, propulsion flow rate and reaction coil length were studied. The limit of detection was 3 microg ml(-1). The sensitivity was 0.0108+/-0.0002 ml microg(-1). The relative standard deviations of the results were between 6 and 12%. The real concentrations of samples and the values obtained by HPLC were comparable. Determination of total arsenic in soft drinks by hydride generation atomic fluorescence spectrometry

Abstract A highly sensitive and simple method has been developed for the determination of total arsenic, by continuous hydride generation and atomic fluorescence spectrometry (HGAFS), in refreshing drink samples as colas, teas and fruit juices. Samples were mixed with concentrated HCl and KI to obtain final concentrations of 2 mol l−1 and 1%, respectively. These solutions were aspirated and merged with a reducing NaBH4 3% (m/v) solution, with sample and NaBH4 flow rates of 12.5 and 1.5 ml min−1, respectively. Some observations on the sensitivity of flow-injection techniques for atomic absorption spectrophotometry

Abstract Different strategies for coupling flow-injection manifolds to atomic absorption spectrometers in order to obtain better sensitivity are compared. Using a T-connector interface, different carriers and flow compensation solvents have been assayed in an attempt to improve the sensitivity of flow-injection analysis. Manganese and copper determinations in sewage sludge have been used as a test system and the analytical parameters of both batch and flow-injection methods are compared.
Multi-pumping mechanised determination of selenium in natural waters by light emitting diode (LED) spectrometry

It has been developed a fully mechanised procedure for the determination of selenium in waters employing a LED based spectrometer and solenoid multi-pumps as solution propelling devices. The proposed method is based on the reaction of selenium with potassium iodide in an acidic medium to liberate iodine, which oxidizes Variamine Blue to form a violet-colour species which absorb at 530 nm. The system was mechanised using the multicommutation process and a stopped flow strategy in the final step reaction.
